FAQ Curtain

Width of the fabric

The standard width of the furnishings fabric is either 48 inches(4 ft) or 54 inches(4.5 ft). There are fabrics with larger width but they are not very common. If 2 ft width fabric is required for the window, customer has to still buy the available width of the fabric. But it can be cut and customized to fit the window. Each piece of 4ft fabric is termed as 'panel'.

How much more fabric for Pleats?

The more the fabric that goes into the pleat, the grandeur the curtains looks. On an average, pleats will consume 50% of the total fabric requirement. Consumption may vary depending on the type of pleats chosen. Consumption of fabric for some of the common styles is listed below:

1) Double Pleats - 50% of fabric goes in to the pleats. ie.48" width fabric will become 24" after stitching

2) Triple Pleats/French Pleats - 60% of fabric goes in to the pleats. 48" width fabric will become 19" after stitching

3) Eyelet - Consumption may be inline with Double or Triple pleats depending on the depth of the pleats required. Normally, it is same as double pleats

Therefore, for a window of 4 ft in width, the requirement will be two pieces of curtain fabrics each 4ft in width made into double pleated curtain.

How many pieces of curtains will be there for a window?

The standard is that each window of more than 2 ft in width will have 2 piece curtains. If the window is less than 2 ft in width, there will be only one piece curtain. If the window needs 3 panels, one panel will be cut into two and attached to each panel to make it as 2 piece curtain. If you need separate panels without stitching them together, please mention it to the designer.

Maintenance

Though most of the fabrics that we have in the have can be washed regularly, we recommend only dry cleaning the curtains. The reason is that, many times, the curtain looses the sheen after detergent wash. Look and feel of the curtain is what matters most.

How to take measurement for curtains?

These are standards and may vary depending upon the look that you want. Take the width of the window - add 5 inch on either side of the window. Take the height - add 4 inch above the window and 5 inch below the window, if the window is at the middle of the wall. For full length window/door, take the height from 4 inch above the window till 1 inch above the ground. Use only metal measuring tape and not the cloth measuring tape.

Total Fabric required for curtains

Fabric requirement is always calculated in metres. It is not accurate to compute curtain requirement in square feet. Total fabric requirement take into consideration the fabric that goes into pleats, vertical repeat size of the design, stitching allowances and the tie-belt that is required to hold the curtains together. Total fabric requirement varies from design to design.

Eyelet ring and hook sizes

1) Standard eyelet ring inside diameter is 3.5 cm

2) Standard curtain hook ring (plastic) inside diameter is 3.2 cm

If the client purchases/installs the rod from market, rod diameter has to be standard (1 inch) and comply with the diameter of the rings. We are not responsible for mismatch in diameters. In such cases, client has to provide the rings

Timelines for curtain making

All custom made curtains go through the process of ordering fabrics, stitching, finishing and delivery. The lead time may vary from 1 to 2 weeks depending on the source of the fabrics, design complexity and other scheduled work at that time. Kindly give us ample time to get the right quality product.
